At Motherhook Fiber & Co., every colorway is thoughtfully dyed by hand, and the base you choose is just as important as the color itself.

While every base showcases my colorways beautifully, each fiber has its own personality—from how it accepts dye to the way it feels in your hands.

Currently Available

At this time, all of my yarn bases are Worsted Weight (#4) and are available in:

  • 100g skeins — approximately 218 yards
  • 50g skeins — approximately 109 yards

    How it Feels

    Soft with a gentle rustic character and beautiful stitch definition. It has a natural bounce that makes it wonderful for heirloom garments, blankets, sweaters, hats, mittens, and timeless accessories.

    Color Personality

    Peruvian Highland tends to soften tonal transitions and speckles into a dreamy watercolor effect. If a colorway behaves differently on this base than on Superwash Merino, I'll always note it in the listing.

Choosing Your Base

Both bases are dyed using the same recipes, but because they're different fibers, some colorways may look slightly different.

For example:

🌿 Peruvian Highland Wool

  • Softer tonal transitions
  • Watercolor-style speckles
  • Slightly more rustic appearance

🩷 Superwash Merino

  • Richer saturation
  • Crisper speckles
  • Brighter overall appearance

Whenever a colorway has a noticeable difference between bases, I'll always mention it in the product listing so you can confidently choose the look that best fits your project.
